The Wahl Massager

As one of the approximately 8 men on the plant that enjoys the Hitachi Magic Wand (you can read my review it here btw) as much as the average women does I was extremely eager to get my hands on the Wahl massager and all I have to say is…. Get this thing now! Stop reading. Now!…ordered it yet?… Ok now that you have ordered the Wahl and are patiently waiting for it to arrive (correct?), what exactly are you in for? The Wahl is the new reigning king of perverted full-body massagers surpassing even the mighty Hitachi. With two speeds, which are both powerful but feel radically different, seven massager heads to experiment with, and relatively quiet operation, this toy is a must have. Read on for more.

Design, Dimensions and Operation

The Wahl is gun shaped massager the body of which is about 8 inches long and is about an inch wide at the handle and about 3” wide at the head (not counting any attachments) the power cord is a generous 9 feet. Due to the gun shaped design, the toy may be hard to wield for some users. Most of the toy’s weight is concentrated on the top of the toy, this weight imbalance may pose a problem for some users such as those with wrist problems. The toy does have two groves on the head that you could use to grip it that way if you want. A large blue slider easily switches the toy from “0-Off” to speed “I-Low” to speed “II-High”; the slider is also slightly rough and has a single raised ridge in the center making it extremely easy for your fingers to hold on to. The slider is extremely easy to switch, if you want to go straight to high or turn if off quickly the slider slides up and down with ease.

One benefit to this toy has is that like all repurposed full-body massagers nothing about this toy says “sex toy”; making it incredibly discreet. In addition, compared to the Hitachi, the Wahl is even more discreet. Many already know of the Hitachi’s secret life as a sex toy that it might arouse suspicion even in the common population. However, the Wahl has yet to receive such a lascivious reputation, although if there is any justice in the universe it will quickly gain such a reputation. (Don’t worry I can handle this review becoming quickly outdated, spread the Word of Wahl!) Better yet for us males many people don’t know vibrators period can be used on the male body; unless your friend/family/coworkers are as perverted as you are no one is going to suspect the “muscle” your massaging with this is in between your legs.

Overall, the design worked well for me allowing me to hit all the desired spots and operate the toy with ease. Since this is a corded massager, there is no need for batteries although being tied to an outlet may be a con for some people. It should go without saying but this toy is not water proof and should NEVER be used near water. Even the awesome Wahl’s orgasms aren’t worth electrocution.

Lastly, this toy is relatively quiet for all the power it packs; you can hear it under the sheet but not through a locked door.  The only time it’ll make a lot of noise if you bend some of the attachments the wrong way and they start rattling against the plastic of the body, although this is a sign you should reposition anyway as you might bend and break something. In terms of power both setting are very strong and I’ll go over them more below.

Materials: Cleaning and Safety Concerns.

The body of the toy is made hard plastic and each attachment is made out of PVC (a more observant sex toy review  than I pointed out that each attachment has the word PVC printed on them just in case you forget); these PVC attachments are generally hard although some of the thinner attachment do have a bit of give to them. PVC unfortunately cannot be sterilized for sharing so use a barrier (condoms) on the thing if you’re going to be sharing the toy. General cleaning can be done via soap and water. Note that some of the attachments are harder to clean then others the scalp massager with all it ridges for example.  However, as you’ll see below getting fluids on it is not a big problem for me. The attachments are compatible with all lubes if you want to put some on them (again remember the toy isn’t water resistant so be careful to put only a bit on the tip of the attachment).

Another safety concern one should keep in mind is these type of vibrators can over heat if you are using them under a lot of sheets or pillows or if you use the massager for an extended period of time (the manual recommends not using the toy for more than 20 minutes at a time). Lastly, according to the manufacturer we are all living life on the dangerous side as the manual says not to use it on the genital areas… I think I’ll risk it .

Pleasure and Use

Ok now that we have those boring specifications out of the way, let go on to the fun stuff. There are two matters of technique that I should explain first. The first thing is that I should mention is I don’t put the Wahl directly on my flesh in most cases there is usually some thin fabric (i.e. my boxers) separating me from the toy.

Secondly, I need to explain the concept of male multiple orgasm. It is ejaculation not orgasm itself that has a refractory period in men; all you need to do have multiple orgasms as a male is to find out how to separate the two events. I have found many ways to do this anal play, Kegel exercises, but when it comes to vibrators the key is in the placement. Vibrations on the cockhead, anus, and perineum can all induce non-ejaculatory orgasm (and thus multiple orgasm) in me while stimulation on the shaft will yield ejaculatory orgasm, the Wahl delvers on all accounts. After my experiences with the Hitachi, this is the type of results I would expect from massager type vibrator but there are a few things, which make this a cut above the rest.

The first is two vibration settings that feel very different from one another. The first is an intense surface buzz similar to a Hitachi on High, the second is a deep throbbing vibration like “Yes I want a jackhammer on my genitals” type of throbbing (and yes, yes you do). I’ve never had a toy with such radically different vibration settings before. The second “jackhammer” setting is the deepest vibration I have experienced thus far in my time reviewing toys. Although I like both settings this high is the one I use most of the time and is the one I am talking in the remainder of the review unless I mention otherwise. One benefit of the high setting is they if I put it on one of my non-ejaculatory multiple orgasm zones (i.e the cockhead) enough vibrations will be transmit to the ejaculatory orgasm zones that it will give my non-ejaculatory orgasm with some ejaculatory orgasm “flavor” without actually bring me to ejaculatory orgasm. Awesome! If I could only have one form of vibration for the rest of my life it would be the Wahl’s high setting. Be cautioned thou that both of these setting are strong which may be much for a beginner (probably more so for females as the average clit is going to be more sensitive than the average cock).

The second is the attachments. These seven little attachments allow you easily experiment with different surfaces areas and different amounts of pressure. Here is the run down:

General Body Massage: This is basically a cup shaped attachment with a wide rim. I like this because I can basically cup it around my cock head getting stimulation around a good size are of the head. As standard massage it does work well and pretty much any wear on the body (including the perineum, balls and the rest of the cock if we are going back to perv-land).

Knuckle Joint Massage: This is a triangle attachment which, as it name implies, is designed to massage in between the joints (and it works surprisingly well for that). You can use just the edge of this attachment to provide relatively concentrated stimulation to your desired point or use its flat side to increase surface are and have more diffuse vibrations. Because of this, I like this attachment for when I want to be able to switch between more focuses and stimulation that is more diffuse without having to switch attachments. This also work well to massage the anus it wedging as it itself comfortably between the checks (use a condom and make sure not to actually insert the toy into the anus)

Scalp Massage: This attachment is my least favorite and I find it best for it non-pervert function as a scalp massager. It has three rings of hard little fingers; putting it on the genitals just feels weird to me. Although I did find something interesting while testing it out, if I put the Wahl on low and run it across my funny bone I burst out laughing. Something you might want to try on a ticklish partner.

Facial Massager: This is the widest attachment and thus the one that going to produces the most diffuse vibrations. I find it to work well all around both as a sex toy and as a non-sex toy massaging head. One thing I like to do with this is what I refer to below as “duel wielding” (sandwiching my cockhead between this and another massager). The width makes it easy to keep the cock sandwiched in between this and another massager. This attachment also works will in conjunction with the low setting to massage the testicles (or on high to torture the testicles)

Deep Muscle Massage: This attachment lives up to it name and works well for deep massage. The perverted application of this is that this is my favorite attachment for perineum stimulation; although it works well anywhere you want deep stimulation.

Muscle Kneading Massage: This is my favorite to use for general non-sexual body massage. It works well for perverted application as well. I personally like to use it on the perineum.

Spot Application Massage: This is the most intense of the attachments, since the vibrations are concentrated on the smallest surface area. Although a word of caution this attachment can be downright bruising, so be careful with it. This will work well on any part of the body as along you can handle the intensity. If you like external anal stimulation ,this attachment’s small size will work will for squeezing between the checks to massage the anus (again with a barrier and externally only).

These attachment provid a lot of variety, although there is might bit of a learning curve to find which combination of attachment and speed works best for you. The only thing perhaps missing from this toy is a large Hitachi styled ball attachment, which would make it compatible with all the lovely Hitachi attachment that are available on the market. Although on that note, one excellent use for these massager type vibrators is using them to vibrate other toys. For example putting this on the base of a silicone dildo while it is inserted inside of you. I really like doing it allows me to feel some of those intense throbbing high setting vibration internally. It may not work as well as if there was something like the Jollies Hitachi attachment that could work for this but it’ll do.

Duel Wielding and Other Fun Applications

In my Hitachi review I wrote about how I loved to use this toy in conjunction with other toys (massager on the perineum + a masturbator on the cock; using the massager to vibrate another toy as I mentioned above etc.) those all apply here as well but after getting the Wahl, I have a new method …Duel Wielding. Basically, I use two massager type vibrators at once. This produces some very intense orgasms so intense I wrote a whole post describing these duel wielding techniques (and even twittered about it). I’ll let the linked post go in to detail about the various duel-wielding techniques I’ve found but to quickly summarize, some highlight. You can use the two on different points of the body such as perineum and the cockhead to produce male multiple orgasm from two different point  or on the cockhead and the shaft to produce several non-ejaculatory via one while the other brings you to an intense ejaculatory orgasm.  Or you can use the two on the same point (i.e.  two massager on the cockhead) for unbelievably intense non-ejaculatory orgasm. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

Although I’ve already mentioned this above it doesn’t hurt to mention again that this toy works perfectly well as a normal body massager. Which means you can use it as foreplay, to relax you or your partner after a hard day of work etc. Lastly, this toy even has implications for BDSM style play as it can be used for forced orgasm play or cock and ball torture. The amount of versatility this toy has makes it absolutely excellent value.

Who is it for?

The only people I would not recommend the Wahl to are those that dislike strong vibrations or novices (as the vibrations might be too strong for them). This should be a serious consideration for most anyone else. Although it may not be the best two for a novice due to it potently overwhelming power anyone wanting more power should put this toy on their list. In addition, for those with a little experience the 2 very different vibration modes combined with all the various attachments provides a vast amount of exploration to figure out exactly what you like most. Lastly, if you want to see just how different vibrations can be from one another I cannot think of a better case study the Wahl.

Packaging and Storage

This toy comes in a cardboard book with a picture of the Wahl on the front and a picture of the Wahl and its 7 attachments on the back. Inside in addition to the Wahl and its attachments, you will find a user manual that explains the vibrator’s non-perverted uses in both English and Spanish. You could use the box to store the toy and it attachments, it is just a standard cardboard box after all. Although the toy so discreet I just leave it out in the open… near an outlet… ready to go. (Did I make it clear I love this toy yet?). On the topic of storage it is mighty be a good idea to take the attachment off when not in use leaving them on might overtime result in them losing their snug fit to the head. Also it may seem obvious but just a reminder: never store this toy where it might get wet. You might want to have the plastic bag or have your own ready to store the attachments so they do not go rolling around and risk getting lost.

Being a repurposed back massager; the packaging is completely discreet and will not arouse any suspicion. Making this a good gift giving option for anyone you know who needs some help with all those relaxing all those “muscle aches” (or just muscle aches without quotation as it is good at it original purpose).

Closing Thoughts

This is my new favorite toy knocking the Hitachi out of the number one spot. This toy has the best vibration speed I’ve found; the attachment give the toy excellent versatility (including using it for it mundane functions) and it discreet on top of that. The highest praise I can give to this toy is that I know that there is a version of the Wahl with heat, it is unfortunately not currently available from my sex shop of choice, but if it were, it would be in my shopping chart. Yes, the Wahl is so awesome I actually want two of them…now what are you waiting for go get one!
