The Screw Royal by Whipspider Rubberworks
The Screw Royal is a butt plug, with an artistic spiral design that is also functional providing more stimulation during insertion. However, despite the toy’s fantastic looks, it commits a butt plug carnal sin. It is unable to stay in. Read ahead for details.
Materials, Cleaning, and Safety Concerns (aka Boring but important section 1)
This plug is made out pure silicone, which is one of the best materials for butt plugs as it is nonporous, inert, tasteless, odorless, and free of phthalates and latex. Silicone is easy to clean. For basic cleaning, use hot soap and water. For a more through sanitization, clean it with a 10% bleach solution, put it on the top rack of your dishwasher sans soap, or boil it for 5 minutes. For the most through home sterilization, put it in a pressure cooker for at least 20 minutes. If you have access to an autoclave, you could also sterilize it that way. Make sure to use a sanitization or sterilization method if trying to use this vaginally after using it anally or if using it on multiple partners.
Use only water-based lubes with this toy as silicone lubes can have a bonding reaction with it marring the surface of the toy. If you must use a silicone lube on the toy do a test patch on the button of the toy first to test for any reactions.
Design and Dimensions (aka boring but important section 2)
This toy is a total of 5 inches tall, with a corkscrew design that start at just under an inch at the tip with the toy growing in diameter as it spirals till it reaches its a max diameter of about 1 2/3”. This corkscrew head takes up the majority of the toys length coming in at 3.6 inches. After the head comes the toy’s neck, that is about an inch in diameter and is .60” in length. The toy has an oval base, three inches wide on its long axis and 1.5 inches on its short axis that is about .60” thick. At the center of this oval is the Whipspider symbol. Lastly, it weight 4.75 oz.
The toy comes in a marbled two-color silicone. Eden has them available in blue/lavender, blue/black, and black/glow-in-the-dark white.
Pleasure and Use (aka The Fun Part, ya!)
I really wanted to love this toy, I really did but at the end of the day it has a single fatal flaw which ruins it for me: It falls out. What happens each time I have tried to use this toy is after insertion, I feel a few moments of uncomfortable pressure followed by the toy falling out. After looking at the toy closely, I’ve come to the conclusion that the neck is the main culprit here. As I mentioned above the toy’s neck is only .60 of an inch. To compare my 4.75 tall Velvet Plush Fulfiller and Tantus Severin medium both have necks that are over an inch long. The combination of such a long head with such a short neck ultimately leads to the retention issues I just discussed. It is a shame to because otherwise this is an awesome plug.
To start despite the hard look that the marbled silicone gives to the toy, the silicone is actually soft and plushy. The threads on the spiral make for a fun and stimulating insertion especially if you twist and turn the toy as you insert it. When inserted it did seem to provide a nice sense of fullness however it is difficult to evaluate because I couldn’t keep it in for very long. The base seems comfortable enough however, keep in mind I can’t rate this very accurately either due to how hard it is to keep in. One last feature of this toy is that it glows in the dark if you get the black/glow-in-the-dark combination; see the section below for more on that.
Aesthetic Beauty (aka Ohh…pretty!)
Like all Whipspider toys, this toy has an artistic non-realistic appearance; Whipspider call their products “Art with Benefits”. The marbled silicone of this gives it a hard look, like this is some type of stone artifact. The glow-in-the-dark option also makes it even cooler and adds to the spooky vibe of the toy. I like to think of this as a demonic grave marker….that I can also shove into my ass. It does not glow super brightly, it is not going to replace the emergency glow stick in your first aid kit for example, but it is enough to be noticed and provide the already mentioned spooky appearance. My one complaint is that I wish there was more of the glow-in-the-dark white on the bottom of the base. I don’t know if all them are like this or if it is just luck of the draw with how the marbling turns out but mine had no noticeable white on the base (see picture above in Design and Dimensions). Had there been glow-in-the-dark on the base you could see the base glowing while it is sitting between the checks assuming you were in a dark enough room. Note: Like all glow-in-the-dark things, you may have to “charge” this under a light for several hours to get it to glow well.
Packaging (aka Does the box double as a porn?)
The good news is that the packaging unlike so many doesn’t double as free porn (unless you like packaging that doubles as free porn in which case this is the bad news). Also, it is not even a box, this like the other toy I got from Whipspider (The Mantoy) it comes in resalable plastic bag (the same kind you’d put a sandwich in), along with an index card with some notes about Whipspider and some cleaning instructions. It nothing fancy but it’ll provide a good place to store your toy when not in use and it is good to keep your toys in a bag like this to help prevent interactions with other materials and because silicone tends to be a dust and lint magnet.
Closing thoughts (aka. Are you done babbling yet?)
I have a policy that any plug that can’t stay in get no more than 2 stars at best, and that is where this plug falls. Despite it’s lovely appearance and good features, it did not work for me but if you know your butt well enough to know that the small neck won’t cause a retention issue for you this may turn out better for you.
